a 1966 paperback edition of the collected poems of Sara Teasdale. Who, like her contemporary Marianne Moore, was born in St. Louis but quickly moved to New York City and became a lifelong New Yorker.
I really wonder, could they have met as children?? Knowingly or unknowingly??
When I was in college I would struggle to focus on anything and when I studied in my university's library my distraction of choice was their dusty old hardback edition of "Rivers to the Sea" by Sara Teasdale. I had never heard of her and didn't learn more about her till several decades later but I loved that book and maybe if I had been studying poetry I'd have had an easier time in school.
I strongly considered accidentally "losing" when I finished my degree cause I'm fairly certain I was the only person in the entire university who touched it--but there was something about not getting your degree if any books were outstanding that made me reconsider. But don't worry, a few years later I found a copy for myself.
